"Signed, Sealed and Delivered"
or Believing for Supernatural Protection During End Time Tribulations
December 2001 by
Saturday night. The Sabbath has just ended. It is one of the few times when secular and religious Jews come together. It's a Jerusalem thing. The coffee shops are open. The Ben Yehuda triangle - a group of streets in the center of Jerusalem where cars do not enter and which forms a popular walking mall - is packed with people, shoulder to shoulder, laughing, eating falafel and humus, enjoying the cool evening air. 11:30 PM.
11:32 PM. Boom! A suicide terrorist blows himself up on a popular corner near Zion Square.
11:33 PM. Boom! Another suicide terrorist blows himself up half a block away.
11:51 PM. Boom! A terrorist car bomb explodes half a block away on the other side.
Eleven lie dead. One hundred sixty six injured. Grief. Horror. Inexplicable.
For what crime? For the crime of being Jewish and living in Jerusalem, occupiers of Islamic holy land.
The Body of Messiah in Israel is also filled with countless stories of supernatural protection. Angels pushing people, whispering in their ears, delaying buses - all to keep people from being hit in the terrorist attacks. Similar stories were heard about people who were supernaturally spared in the WTC attacks. How many more unknown but awesome testimonies there are among missionary evangelists in hostile lands!
In addition to our overwhelming sense of pain and compassion for those who are injured or who have had loved ones killed, we must also develop our faith that God can protect us from harm. This is a basic tenet of New Covenant faith. Since much of the theology of our generation was developed in the United States, where until three months ago, there was little sense of danger, faith in divine protection has lagged behind other areas of faith victory. We are facing a new era that has greater challenges than positive confession for a good parking place when you go shopping at the mall.
One area of protection has to do with the military. In Israel all of our children are required to serve in the army. We see this not only as a civil duty, but as part of their service to the Lord. We need to pray, believe and confess Psalm 91 over our children that no enemy bullets or bombs will hurt them
A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you. No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
For He shall give His angels charge over you to protect you in all your ways.
By the way, the word "evil" in verse 10 is "te'unah", from which the modern Hebrew word for car accident is derived. We confess this verse in faith for protection against car accidents.
Another area of protection has to do with direct demonic attack or witchcraft curses. We need to know and confess that demons have no power over us. We have signed a blood covenant with Yeshua. Protection from demonic attack is part of the contract.
I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
As Yeshua sent us into the world to proclaim the gospel as sheep among wolves, He also promised us supernatural protection from natural harm, particularly poisoning.
And these signs will follow those who believe . . . they will take up serpents, and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them . . .
Here we can find faith to overcome Anthrax, AIDS, polluted air and water, chemical toxins, etc.
In the end times, the Bible tells us that there will be many tribulations. We are beginning to see a little of them, but it will be much worse. Yet we are not to be worried. We are to be overcomers. God will protect us as He protected the children of Israel during the plagues of Egypt. Part of the end times tribulations are persecutions from wicked people; part are an attack from demonic forces; and part are judgments from God as a warning to the human race.
As angels will be given the assignment to bring those judgments, they will also be instructed not to harm believers on the earth during the judgments. How will this happen? The servants of God will be sealed by the Holy Spirit for protection.
And he cried with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, saying, "Do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees till we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads."
We have not only a covenant signed in the blood of Yeshua, we are also sealed by the power of the Holy Spirit.
But this protection does not come automatically. We must believe for it. Part of believing is to declare the Bible verses like the ones above that promise protection. We put on the armor of faith with our mouths. We dress ourselves, as it were, with our words. The flow of the Spirit comes upon us like a protective clothing as we speak over ourselves with the authority of the Word of God.
The tribulations of this world are a fact.
In this world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world.
We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.
II Timothy 3:12
All who desire to live godly in Messiah Jesus will suffer persecution.
Yet we are not to worry. In every trial and tribulation, our God will be faithful to deliver us.
Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.
We need to walk in faith, repentance, righteousness, integrity, humility and boldness. When the afflictions come, God will deliver us out of ALL of them. No exceptions. We are not only signed and sealed, we are also delivered.
